The core operating mechanism of biogas generators is based on energy conversion. Firstly, biogas, as a fuel, is mainly composed of methane (CH ₄), which is compressed by mixing it with an appropriate amount of air in the cylinder of a gas engine, and then ignited by spark plugs or other ignition methods. The combustion process releases a large amount of energy, producing high-temperature and high-pressure gas, which drives the piston to make reciprocating motion, thereby converting chemical energy into mechanical energy. The reciprocating motion of the piston drives the crankshaft to rotate, and the crankshaft is connected to the generator, which in turn drives the generator to operate, ultimately converting mechanical energy into electrical energy output. For example, in a typical biogas power generation system, the biogas collected from the biogas digester is subjected to pre-treatment processes such as desulfurization, dehydration, and pressure stabilization before entering the gas engine. Single fuel biogas generator sets have significant advantages, as they do not require additional auxiliary fuel oil or complex supply equipment. During work, the "air combustion gas (a mixture of biogas and diesel)" is compressed in the cylinder, ignited by the ignition fuel (usually diesel), and powered by the reciprocating motion of the piston to drive the generator to generate electricity. The advantage of dual fuel biogas diesel generator set is that it can work with both liquid fuel (diesel) and gas fuel (biogas), and has better adaptability to changes in biogas production and methane concentration. When the supply of biogas is insufficient or the quality is unstable, it can be switched to diesel fuel operation to ensure the continuity of power generation. Moreover, when switching from gas fuel to diesel fuel and stopping operation, there will be no unburned gas remaining in the generator set, which makes the corrosion resistance of the unit better.
